My other job is woodworking consultant and assistant. 😄 Just another day as the wife of a woodworker. Description: John walks in the house holding three wood items. He hands Anni a small, darker wood block and then a light one of the same size. Then he asks her opinion about a large shallow bowl he is almost done making. It has multiple types of wood in a stripe pattern. #marriedLife #woodworking #spouse #wife #husbandWife
This is an older video, but it covers a really fascinating topic. John is totally blind now, but he had sight until he was 16. He experiences something called Charles Bonnet Syndrome, which causes vivid visual hallucinations. For some people, especially those with a bit of light perception, these hallucinations can be intense or even unsettling. Thankfully for John, he’s been able to use his hallucinations creatively, visualizing people, places, and even designing the woodworking projects he builds. It’s a remarkable way he’s turned a complex condition into a tool for imagination and art. #blindness #CharlesBonnetSyndrome #blind
Did you know Broadway shows offer audio description devices for blind and low vision guests? We didn’t… until recently. John got to use one during a show, and by intermission, he was a full-blown theater fan. 💛 The descriptive audio brought every scene to life, and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming or accommodating, for both of us. Accessibility matters, and this experience reminded us just how powerful it can be. Description: John holds up a black audio device with wires coming out of it. A clip of the theater stage and red theater seats. The theater is full of guests. A theater attendant describes the device to John. John stands near an elevator that opens. John adds the earpiece to his ear. #theater #musicalTheatre
Reading with sticks is a new one! 😎😄 Description: After the clip, John, a blind man, pulls open his white cane and pretends to read a book with it. #humor #silly #funny #comedy #comedyvideo #funnyvideos #humortiktok
A common question John gets is why he wears safety goggles or a face shield in the wood shop. He always has the same answer: “my face is still made of face.” Description: John wears a face shield, and has the shield flipped up. The text overlay says: “why do you wear face protection if you’re blind?” “My face is made of face” “But you’re already blind, why does it matter?” John makes a confused face. “I have a face…” “Right, but why do you need to protect it, you’re blind.” “To prevent injuring my face…” “But you’re blind” “I don’t understand” and he proceeds to close the face shield and put his head down, confused. #funny #humor
Hand crafted art for potatoes? I’d say that’s a pretty good deal! Description: John, a blind man, enters the house carrying a wood piece he’s made. The tray has a bowl built in the middle with a post in the center. The design is made with two types of wood, yellow heart and black walnut. The design is in a checkered pattern. Anni hands him a plate with loaded baked potatoes and he hands her the tray. The last clip shows the piece being used in a practical way. Jewelry is placed in the tray, and a ring on the post. A smart phone is placed in the bowl, leaning up on the post. #Couple #MarriedLife #artsAndCrafts #artsy
Some days, our life feels like a fairy tale. Not the kind with castles or glass slippers, but the kind where love is the magic, hope is the compass, and the hero learns to carve a beautiful life from even the hardest things. John is a woodworker who happens to be blind. With his hands and his heart, he shapes wood into something gentle and lasting. I help him share those gifts, with stories, with art, with whatever light we can find between us. And Pickle? He’s our loyal intern and window watchdog, standing guard like it’s his full-time job (because it is). Our story isn’t perfect. There are dragons, pain, setbacks, messy days. But we carry those alongside the wonder. And still, the good outweighs the hard. The joy is real. The love runs deep. The hope? Stubborn as ever. We don’t know how far this little story of ours will ripple, but we’re sending it out anyway, one bowl, one word, one wagging tail at a time. Description: clips of John waiting for a train, woodworking, walking with his white cane, wrestling with his dog, kissing Anni on the cheek. #FairyTale #LoveStory #HappilyEverAfter #DreamsDoComeTrue #CoupleGoals
Replying to @its just me The finished bowl! John says he used ash and black walnut, but now we are thinking it’s oak, black walnut, and padauk woods. Either way, it turned out so pretty! Description: John walks in the living room holding a wide, shallow wood bowl he’s made. It is in a striped design, alternating dark and medium toned wood. #marriedLife #loveLanguage #woodworking #wifey
We’ve always been a team. From day one, “How can I help?” was just something that came naturally to ask each other. Both of us have a hard time asking for help, so it was a breath of fresh air to build our relationship in a nurturing environment. Of course, over the years we’ve both learned to ask for help, feeling trusting enough to do so. Nowadays, our rhythms are in sync. We split up household tasks, things like garbage and recycling go to John and things like budgeting and bill paying go to me. What one of us lacks in some departments, the other makes up for. No shame. Just love. Video description: John, a blind man, holds a hose up to a blue car, spraying it with water. He laughs and smiles as he feels the water and where the car is. #marriedLife #marriage #teamwork #spouse #Love #sweet #wholesome #fyp
Sometimes it takes a blind person to find my stuff… 🥴 Thank you to my very observant husband! #marriageHumor #LostandFound #greenFlags #husbandsofTikTok
Would it surprise you to learn that a blind woodworker uses many of the same power tools as a sighted one? John’s workshop is packed: lathe, miter saw, belt sander, planer, table saw, hand sander, even a shop vac (because yes, even blind guys hate sawdust in their socks). He doesn’t need sight to shape wood, he works by sound, feel, patience, and pure muscle memory. People ask, “Is that safe?” Let’s just say: John’s fingers are still intact. Turns out, sight isn’t the only way to see the potential in a block of wood. #woodworking #woodturning #lathe #woodwork #artisan
How does John know what kind of wood he’s working with?” We get this question all the time! When we first buy wood, our supplier usually writes the type on the board or tells us what it is. But even with John trying his best to stay organized, things get mixed up sometimes, real life, right? So we’ve gotten creative. We’ve used wood ID apps, scoured the internet with detailed descriptions, and ruled things out based on grain or texture. Some people go by scent, but John doesn’t have a sense of smell, and I only know what cedar and pine smell like, so that’s not much help either! It’s a little detective work, a little tech, and a lot of hands-on experience. And somehow, we always figure it out in the end… well most of the time. #TeamWork #marriage #woodworking #faq #qAndA #couple
Replying to @Ben Miracle The comment says, “Should he be wood working?” referring to John woodworking while blind. The answer is a resounding yes. John was meant to do this. Woodworking isn’t just John’s job, it’s his passion. He’s faced doubt at every step of his journey, but he’s turned that doubt into determination. In a craft built for sighted people, John has forged his own path, using tools like tactile measuring devices and a SawStop to make his work both accessible and safe. He’s not just doing this, he’s thriving. Instead of asking if someone should do what they love, we hope more people ask: How can we support them in doing it safely and successfully? We’ll keep showing what’s possible. Video description: clips of John working in his woodshop. He twirls a chisel before he holds it up to the lathe. He shown holding finished pieces that are various patterns and colors of wood. He is shown using a lathe, sander, saw, and doing other activities in his woodshop. ##resilience##perseverance##dontBelieveMeJustWatch##woodworker##craftsman##artisan

To identify wood, John uses his very handy wood detector stick. 😎 In reality, it’s a mix of assistance, creativity, and having a great memory. Description: John stands behind a work bench covered with boards of wood. He jokingly uses his white cane to “feel” the boards. Then he shows a tool called a marking gauge. #woodworking #artisan #blind #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp
