Back-to-school haircuts today @JamesGriffithSalon! Kennedy wanted a shorter do’ with bangs to hide her skin graft a little bit. Ellie wanted to keep her length but added some cute layers!

I wrote this poem in the middle of the night, after a hard day that left Kennedy in tears. She’s so brave, always trying to brush off the stares and whispers. But that day… it just got to her. And I couldn’t stop thinking about all the things people might assume. The scary stories they might make up in their heads to explain the skin graft on her face. But the truth is simpler, and harder. She just got sick. She’s not a mystery or a monster. She’s still Kennedy. Still full of light and love and everything she’s always been. This poem is for her, and for every kid who’s ever been looked at like they’re something to fear.
