As a business owner I just can’t wrap my head around taking advantage of my customers. Since posting this on IG, so many people said they had no idea and they always selected it because they didn’t want to risk it. OR the option for shipping insurance is preselected and they didn’t realise (Shopify are now making it unselected by default for this reason I think). Have business owners lost touch with the fact that these are real people (who work hard for their money) buying their stuff? Why take advantage of them? Someone in a business group I’m a part of suggested it to me as a way of increasing AOV. I love making money as much as anyone, but I would genuinely feel so gross about that. It’s so misleading. I don’t even know how it’s legal? Anyway, Australia Post actually offers compensation (to the seller) for most lost parcels, which can include shipping costs too. If that’s not enough, the seller can pay a few dollars more for extra cover. But that’s to cover THEIR loss, not yours. You still need to get the item you paid for. If they can’t provide that, they need to refund you. This irritates me in the same way brands only offer store credits and not refunds, but that’s another story…
