The Power of Masking Pt. 4 ⬇️ For this shot I used object selection on the train to help it pop, combined with linear gradients to help further draw the viewers eye there as the main subject. I also added a radial gradient to give the train’s light that glowing effect, and a sky selection to help bring in those natural sunset colors. I then used a brush to dodge and burn across the entire image for selective contrast and depth. The Power of Masking Pt. 5 ⬇️ For this shot, I used linear filters to lift the shadows and exposure in the darker half of the image, creating a more balanced look overall. I also used radial gradients to draw attention to the area where most of the key elements were featured. I utilized object selection masks on the boats to help them pop, then finished off by dodging and burning with the brush tool to add selective contrast, bringing depth and detail to the entire composition. Here are a few more tips to level up your masking: Linear Filters: Great for controlling exposure across specific sections of your image, perfect for lifting shadows in darker areas. The Power of Masking Pt. 6 ⬇️ For this shot, I used multiple radial gradients around the sun to amplify its natural glow and create a soft, warm atmosphere. I then applied linear gradients at the top, bottom, and center of the image to pull attention towards the middle while bumping the highlight levels on the fog. Lastly, I used dodging and burning to add selective contrast and bring depth to the photo. How to Create this famous Dolly Zoom Effect with Photos 🎥📸 Ever wondered how to create this trippy video effect? Here's how I did it using four different lenses and a car as my subject: 1. Pick Your Subject: I used a car positioned at a front 45-degree angle to really show how the different focal lengths affect its look. You can use any subject you want! 2. Select Your Lenses: I used a range of lenses to capture this effect: 12mm-24mm, 24mm-70mm, 70mm-200mm, and 100mm-400mm. In total, I took 18 photos, equally spaced out from 12mm to 400mm. 3. Set Up Your Shots: Start at the closest point to your subject with the widest lens (12mm). For each shot, switch to a longer focal length (progressively zooming in) and move the camera further back to maintain the same framing of the car. 4. Move Back While Zooming In: As you change lenses and zoom in, keep moving backwards while keeping the car the same size in the frame. This is key to creating effect. Focus on keeping your camera steady to ensure smooth transitions and alignment between each shot. 5. Post Processing: Finally, organize the shots in sequential order watch as the background stretches and compresses around your subject! What do you think of this effect? When the sun is directly in frame, layering radials like this softens its glow, creating a dreamy and realistic effect. I also warmed up and added some haze to the radials to enhance the golden hour look.
