Color removers aren’t one size fits all and if you’re working with box dye, choosing the right one is crucial👇🏽 There are two main types: 1. Oxidative color removers – break down permanent color molecules. 2. Direct dye removers – target stains and fashion shades (these will affect the natural pigment). Most box dyes fall under the oxidative category, so you’ll need a remover that targets those molecules. NOT just a clarifying shampoo or bleach. My go-to steps for box dye removal: 💕Apply an oxidative color remover on dry hair. 💕Process with low heat if allowed. 💕Rinse thoroughly for 5+ minutes—yes, really. 💕Clarify to remove residue. 💕Follow with a porosity equalizer or protein treatment before going lighter.
