Ok, but to get real for a second… Growing up, classical music was the secret language of my soul. As I got older, I realized most people outside my orchestra didn’t share my love. Kids judged me for my interests, calling them “white” choices. It hurt to hear that. I never knew it as “old white men” music — I just knew it was music that touched my heart and made me happy. I share this story because we humans are complex with different interests and backgrounds. In my opinion, linking our interest to solely by our skin color dilutes the beauty in our complexity and individuality. We shouldn’t ignore bias, racism, or other forms of -isms, but rather emphasize that our specific interests cannot be narrowed down by the color of our skin. I created the album “Dawn of a Misfit” to blend my love for classical music with other passions. I haven’t tried to create “Black music” or “white music.” I make “me” music, especially for those who might never explore other interests due to stereotypes. I hope they embrace their true selves and enjoy their passions without worrying about others’ opinions. This challenges stereotypes and promotes interaction based on individuality and character, showing that no race is monolithic. So, I’ll keep being me. It’s the only way I know how to be. #realtalk #Beethoven #KToven #DarkWinter
