The whole encounter made me laugh and cry. 1. If I knew she wasn’t already connected with a church, I would’ve been nicer and explained more. 2. I don’t think modesty is an important virtue. 3. I’ve never been to a nude beach, it was just an example. 4. I hope y’all enjoy your summer 🙋🏽♀️
Here’s a simple breakdown on why I think the clobber passages are not to be the final say: Genesis 19: Sodom and Gomorrah. Ezekiel 16:49 reads, “This was the sin of your sister Sodom; she did not support the poor and needy.” Leviticus: This was about order and structure. Not necessarily a condemnation of being. Romans was about temple related immorality Corinthians’s definition of “fornicator” and “sexually immoral” changes over time! It could’ve been about flirting or about sec outside of marriage. Pauline letters are interpretations of one man and one school of thought. There are so many messages that are far more important in the Bible about our profound love of money, our greed, our unwillingness to care for the poor and forigner. #progressiveclergy #anglican
A day to celebrate love- God’s love and our capacity for love! It took us a while to get here, but here we are! Celebrate friends, celebrate! #progressiveclergy #anglican
Here is an explanation of each picture and the sin of misrepresenting God. 1. Destruction of Palestine: Birth right, occupation, genocide. 2. School shorting: Gun laws that don’t defend and protect children. 3. Encampments: Clearing housed people from streets violently, not caring for the poor. 4. Making queer people believe that they not are loved by God. 5. Indeginious people of Canada: the Doctrine of Discovery 6. The state of Israel: occupation. Many of the terrible things happening in the world right now are funded by Christians who think that God is supportive and affirming. God cares for the poor, the Palestinian, the Iranian, the civilian, the indeginious person, the queer person, children fleeing for their lives when gun shots go off in schools. We’ve once again misunderstood God. #progressiveclergy
I think the supervisor did a good job asking the question, and not answering it for me. Arbitrary “opposites” help no one, and are especially damaging to women. “Working woman vs good mom,” “strong women vs tender women,” are false dichotomies. So stay cute y’all, and build competencies and boundaries to protect yourself and to do your jobs well. I’m a pastor of a church now and often wrestle with false dichotomies about my role. #progressiveclergy #anglican
I led this Bible study recently on birds from a book called “Consider the Birds” by Debbie Blue. It was an incredible read. I strongly recommend. Also, welcome to me new temporary church. #progressiveclergy #anglican
Replying to @Handi1713 this is what we call pink washing. Solidarity against death doesn’t need to be earned. It comes from who we are. #progressiveclergy #anglican
Replying to @sharonsantiago18 Hello everybody! My name is Gerlyn and I’m an Anglican priest in the diocese of Toronto. I’m glad you’re here. #progressiveclergy #anglican
Beware, bad theology kills people. Bad theology is the leading cause of death in the world. Colonization, occupation of Palestine, genocide of indigenous people in the Americas are some examples of bad bad bad theology killing millions of lives. Stop and think. #progressiveclergy #anglican
Replying to @jjay_hnt but we must not use the Bible (our ancestors often did) as a sort of encyclopedia out of which texts (isolated from their context and read without attention to the whole nature and purpose of the books in which they occur) can be taken for use as weapons - C.S Lewis
Although the concept is older, the exact phrase "separation of church and state" is derived from "wall of separation between Church & State," a term coined by Thomas Jefferson in his 1802 letter to members of the Danbury Baptist Association in the state of Connecticut. Governments should be for all people. Not for Christians, Jews, Muslims or Hindus. Governments should be for all people. Or they will end up being for no body but themselves. #progressiveclergy #anglican
