We caught a tagged striped bass! What happens when you call it in? We were in the middle of commercial sea bass fishing and got this guy on bycatch, so we didn’t take the time to measure and weigh him - definitely should have. Super cool that this fish was last called in 3 years ago and was 10 inches shorter. #fishing #newjersey
One of the craziest things I’ve seen this year fishing from shore. I was fishing in the Cape Cod canal and retrieved my jig after drifting it in the current. On the way in I felt a thump, so I set the hook. Immediately I felt the weight of the fish and knew it was big. At first I thought it was maybe a 40 pound striper, but that was when I saw it jump out of the water. It was a HUGE Sunfish, also known as a Mola Mola. The reason I was shocked was because the Sunfish was pretty deep in the water column. It wasnt visible on the surface of the water - my jig had to have been in at least 30 feet of water when I went tight. Not to mention it was a single hook bucktail Jig - pretty tough to foul hook a fish on the retrieve like that. The fish had to have been over a hundred pounds, because once it caught current it started absolutely dumping line. I tightened my drag as far as it would go, and not long after the fish broke me off right at the lure. #fishing
